NOTTINGHAM RUGBY NUMERACY THROUGH SPORT PROGRAMME
Nottingham Rugby Club are delighted to be able to introduce this programme and have the opportunity of helping to develop young children.
The Numeracy through Sport Programme is designed to support the work of the National Curriculum and will re-enforce confidence with numbers, by using the game of TAG rugby each child at the end of the programme will have participated in an hours activity and recognised how numbers/maths are used in sport.
The aim is to ensure that every child who takes part has fun, learns how to play TAG Rugby and has the opportunity to discover how numeracy and literacy are used in sport by coaches and players. It will also provide the pupils with the challenge of calculating a number of scenarios in their work books.
Each session of the programme requires the children to complete a work sheet which is completed prior to the outdoor element of the programme or on returning to the classroom. On average completion of the work sheets will take 15 minutes with 45 minutes available for the practical elements of the programme.
This programme should ensure that all parties taking part will discover new skills that can be used in their existing environment and hopefully in future , and provide them with further confidence when using numeracy.
The programme is delivered over a 6 week period and is aimed at a group of 12 - 15 year 6 pupils who are having difficulties with numeracy.
