Working with the Year 2 Sports Coaching Degree students from Nottingham Trent University, and Sportshall UK we have developed a 6 week Introduction to Athletics Coaching Programme to offer to schools.

The students have received training on the delivery of a 6 week programme that will cover introducing year 3 & 4 pupils to the fundamentals of athletics, culminating in pupils taking part in a "Pentathlon" event on week 6 where they will individually test their abilities in 5 disciplines, followed by a Sports Hall Athletics Festival for all participating schools on Monday 16th January . The breakdown of the 6 weeks, which will run from Tuesday 1st November - Tuesday 6th December is:

* Week 1 - Tues 1st Nov - Introduction to Jumping
* Week 2 - Tues 8th Nov- Introduction to Sprinting
* Week 3 - Tues 15th Nov - Introduction to Throwing
* Week 4 - Tues 22nd Nov - Introduction to Endurance
* Week 5 - Tues 29th Nov - Event Specific Preparation
* Week 6 - Tues 6th Dec - Pentathlon Event

Students will work in pairs and are available on Tuesday mornings only, 9:30am - 12pm to work with 2 separate classes from year 3 / 4.

** All schools accessing the programme will have to sign up to the London 2012 Get Set Network

** All schools accessing the programme will be expected to attend a Year 3/4 Sports Hall Athletics Festival at the Lee Westwood Sports Centre at Nottingham Trent University on Monday 16th January, 1pm - 3pm.
