Fernwood School secured the first City Championship Sports title of 2014/15 with a hard earnt victory at the finals of the year 10/11 Rugby Union.
With the Rugby Union World Cup providing an inspiration to all of the players involved 5 schools battled it out over 2 weeks aiming to become City champions.
The final pitted Fernwood against Trinity and they served up an awesome display of free flowing rugby combined with some crunching defence.
The first half was a close affair with neither team giving an inch and as the half time whistle blew there had been no score by either team with defences very much on top.
Fernwood struck early in the second half scoring 2 tries in quick succession and looked poised to run away with the game, but Trinity showed great composure and determination to work their way back into the game drawing level at 2 tries each with a couple of minutes remaining.
Fernwood then picked themselves up, secured good field position, and capitalising on a Trinity error broke away to score the match winning try.
Final positions:
1st Fernwood
2nd Trinity
3rd Farnborough
4th Emmanuel
5th Bluecoat
