Farnborough Year 8 boys football team took the City Central Venue League title on a cold finals night at Fernwood School on 12th November.
The finals night featured both Ellis Guilford A & B team as well as Fernwood and Farnborough after the teams had qualified through from the group stages. On a quick and slippery surface the play was fast and furious and after the semi final matches Farnborough and Ellis Guilford A faced each other in the final, a match up between the 2 group stage top teams.
In a very tight end to end battle with defences on top it looked like the game was likely to be scoreless, but early in the second half Farnborough found a chink I the Ellis Guilford defence and took the lead. The team from Basford then threw everything they could at the Clifton team, but great defending and goalkeeping resulted in Farnborough holding on to secure the title and the gold medals.
The bronze medal play off game produced a feast of goals with Fernwood eventually taking the spoils with a 5 4 victory after Ellis Guilford B had fought back from trailing 4 1.
