The year 9 boys basketball finals on Monday produced one of the most thrilling finals of the year to bring the curtain down in style on 2012 and a fantastic year of school sport.
The event featured 8 teams playing off in the Development League and Elite League Grand Finals Play Offs and the play and skill level was of the highest order.
In the Development League Finals Ellis Guilford and Hadden Park won their semis in comfortable fashion and then played off for the league title. Hadden Park came out of the blocks in great fashion and their shooting to basket ratio was very high and they dominated the game to take the title with a 28 - 12 victory. Fernwood defeated an enthusiastic Top Valley to take the bronze medals.
The Elite League play offs saw the top 4 teams in the City going head to head and after some close semi - final play Trinity and Nottingham Academy won through to face each other in the final.
The game was a real end to end affair with Trinity taking a 4 point lead into the half time break. The second half continued at the same high pace with the teams trading baskets and Nottingham Academy clawing their way back into the game and with 30 seconds to go the scores were locked at 20 - 20.
The team from Sneinton then found a crack in the Trinity defence to score the decisive basket with just seconds left to take the title to add to the year 10/11 title they won earlier in the term.
In the bronze play-off match Emmanuel took advantage of a tired Big Wood team, who had to play back to back games after running Trinity close in the semi-final, to win the bronze medals.
Nottingham Academy now go through to the County Finals on 7th February.
