School Sport Nottingham was honoured with a royal visit at a schools athletics event held at Vernon Park on 13th June.
As part of the Queens Diamond Jubilee celebrations Nottingham received a visit by the Queen and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and following a visit the Old Market Square the Royal party visited Vernon Park to re name the park as part of the Fields In Trust open day.
School Sport Nottingham were asked to stage a primary schools athletics event as part of the days activities, with 3 local schools, Our Ladys Bulwell, Heathfield and Southwark competing against 3 schools from Derbyshire.
The athletics event took centre stage when Prince William started the obstacle relay race and when the royal couple tried their hand at the Javelin event, receiving world wide press coverage the following day.
