Big Wood School added to their year 10/11 City Boys Basketball title by taking the Year 7 crown in a thrilling final win over Nottingham Academy, on 5th March at Wildcats Arena.
The Elite Group Finals involved 4 schools; Big Wood, Nottingham Academy, Djanogly and Trinity. The tournament provided the closest set of finals play off games ever seen.
Big Wood were tested to the full in their semi final, with defences dominating they just edged Djanogly with a 2 - 1 win, whilst Trinity ran Nottingham Academy to a 2 point game with the team from Sneinton edging through 8 - 6.
In the bronze medal play off Djanogly recovered well to take 3rd place with a 8 - 6 win over Trinity, setting the scene for the final.
Nottingham Academy dominated the early exchanges and quickly moved into a 4 - 0 lead but Big Wood fought back well to only trail 5 - 6 at the interval. The second half saw defences on top and when the final whistle blew the scores were locked at 8 - 8, taking the game into 2 minutes overtime.
Big Wood showed great composure to take a 2 point lead then hung on, absorbing great pressure from Nottingham Academy to take the title.
In the Development Group play offs Ellis Guilford showed great form beating Farnborough 13 - 2 in the final with Fernwood picking up the bronze medals and Bulwell coming 4th.
