The finale of the Nottingham City Leadership Academy programme was held at Nottingham Trent University on Friday 10th February with 5 schools presenting to a panel in the "Dragons Den".
The Leadership Academy involves student management groups from City Secondary Schools receiving training on event management and organisation and then planning and delivering intra competition in their own schools in either dodgeball or urban hockey to year 7 and 8 pupils. The programme culminates in students presenting their work to a panel who then select the top 3 schools.
The work the schools presented was of an outstanding standard and the panel were astounded at the quality of work, which made their work to select a top 3 schools almost impossible, but after much deliberation Bluecoat were selecetd to receive the gold medals, with Emmnanuel runners up and Fernwood in third place.
Panel member Matt Bradbury, Sports Development Officer at the National Ice Centre commented " I have been involved in the Leadership Academy for 3 years now and each year I am blown away by the quality and depth of work that the students produce. They all deserve full credit for giving up their time to engage younger pupils in their schools in high quality competitive sport and should all be very proud of their work".
